(Fountain, Colorado) — Halloween treats have a tricky problem. Wrapping paper is difficult to recycle. But our unique recycling program makes it easy to get rid of candy wrappers the right way.
We eat a lot of candy every Halloween. According to research, in America he has bought 600 million pounds of candy. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the majority of candy wrappers are not recycled and end up in landfills or the ocean.
The Trick or Trash campaign aims to curb this problem with our zero-waste custom candy wrapper recycling boxes.
Fountain Fort Carson students will participate for the first time this year. The school’s green team spearheaded efforts to launch this campaign on campus.
With 20 boxes in the Fountain-Fort Carson classroom, students are wrapping up Halloween by saving wrappers for Trick or Trash.
It’s all part of a nationwide campaign Rubicon launched in 2019 to encourage people to recycle and take care of the planet.
Fountain-Fort Carson senior and green team member Zoe Cantrell said,
“I personally care about the planet so much that I want to see others care about it too. Know how you’re really making an impact. This may seem like a really small thing, but in the end it’s better than nothing.”
The school’s green team is already working on more sustainability-focused projects on campus.
We collect candy wrappers by sending boxes to schools, organizations and homes through Rubicon’s Trick or Trash. When the box is full, we send all the wrappers back to Rubicon for recycling. Anyone can request a box by clicking here.
Fountain-Fort Carson plans to expand this Trick or Trash program to more schools in the district.
