After the State Environmental Protection Agency bans mattresses from being dumped in landfills, the Franklin County Solid Waste Management District is working with five towns to produce clean, dry, dry waste, including foam and crib mattresses. We accept fabric covered mattresses and box springs. recycling.
Town residents in District 21 should take their mattresses and box springs to the Bernardston, Collain, Deerfield, Montagu, or Wendell recycling programs. All local mattress recycling sites charge $35 per mattress or box spring, regardless of size. Residents are encouraged to check each site for specific information before bringing mattresses in for recycling.

■Bernardstone Transfer Station on Nelson Drive — Thursdays and Saturdays, 7am to 5pm Checks only.
■Colrain Transfer Station, Charlemont Road — Saturday, 8am to 4pm Cash or Check.
■Deerfield Transfer Station, Lee Road — Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Checks or money orders.
■Montague Transfer Station, Sandy Lane — Wednesdays 7am to 1pm, Saturdays 7am to 2:30pm Checks only.
■Wendell Transfer Station on New Salem Road — Tuesday noon to 5:50 pm, Saturday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm cash or check.
Franklin County residents also have access to the Greenfield Transfer Station on Cumberland Road. Hours of operation are Tuesday-Friday 11 AM-2:30 PM and Saturday 7:30 AM-2 PM. $30 each for mattress and box spring, $5 for host.
Orange residents can take their mattresses and box springs to the Orange Transfer Station on Jones Street for recycling, according to the Franklin County Solid Waste Management District. Annual permit required.
Residents looking to buy a new mattress are advised to ask their mattress distributor if they remove the old mattress when they deliver the new mattress. Some retailers charge a fee, including as part.
