Jackson, Mississippi (WJTV) – Recycling is making a comeback across the city of Jackson.
The city has not officially recycled since it ended its home recycling collection due to lack of funds in 2019. Keep Jackson Beautiful has partnered with Replenysh and Environ Mentality to continue recycling in the city.
Kieran Sanders, executive director of Keep Jackson Beautiful, said:
Garbage cans are located outside Smith Wills Stadium and will be placed at seven locations in Jackson. Larger bins will be built in the future. Organizers said the recent water crisis in Jackson has made the need for recycling even greater.
“I know we’ve given out millions of bottles of water in this place alone. I can only imagine what we’ve given out elsewhere in the city.” Tim Bennett, CEO of Hank Aaron Sports Academy The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said:
Replenysh officials say there could be dangerous consequences as more plastic ends up in landfills. Replenysh is used to melt recycled plastic bottles and make new bottles for companies like Pepsi.
The Plastic and Aluminum Can Buyback will be held on Saturday, October 15th from 9:30am to 12:30pm on South Gallatin Street.
