Royal Oak, Michigan (FOX 2) – The Detroit Zoo is hosting an electronic recycling event on Saturday to divert waste from local landfills.
Electronic gadgets big and small come together at the Detroit Zoo’s Electronic Recycling Event. Participating drivers receive complimentary admission tickets to the Detroit Zoo. Additional tickets will be given to those who share the ride.
Tickets are valid through December 31, 2022 during normal zoo opening hours from 10am to 4pm.
Items that can be recycled are TVs and monitors, printers, desktop and laptop computers, cell phones, tablets, holiday lights, cords and other wires, DVD and VHS players, batteries and radios. The zoo asks participants to cover all batteries of unknown chemistry, lithium, button batteries, sealed lead-acid batteries, and batteries above 9 volts.
We recommend removing personal information from all electronic devices before recycling.
According to the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS), all hard drives are disposed of according to standards set by the US Department of Defense. Revocation certificates can be emailed upon request.
Electronic devices may be brought into the event at the Detroit Zoo’s 10 Mile Road Large Surface Lot (8450 W. 10 Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI) from 10am to 4pm. Questions about recyclable items can be emailed to sustainability@DZS.org.
