Two Orlando, Florida-based companies have announced a partnership to recycle polypropylene (PP).
The NBA’s Orlando Magic will implement PureCycle Technologies Inc.’s PureZero waste program at its Amway Center arena in an effort to divert plastic scrap from landfills and waterways in Central Florida. According to PureCycle, PureZero is the first-of-its-kind plastic material recycling program for stadiums and entertainment venues.
Magic will be the first NBA team to utilize the program, according to PureCycle. The purpose, according to the company, is to process PP items commonly found at Amway centers, such as souvenir cups and food containers, which may typically contain leftover food and liquids. This makes recycling difficult and expensive.
PureCycle says it removes color, odor and impurities from PP items to create Ultra High Purity Recycled (UPR) plastics that can be recycled multiple times.
“By adopting the PureZero program, Amway Center is closing the loop on the plastic waste generated at each game,” said Dustin Olson, CEO of PureCycle. “As an Orlando-based company, we are proud to work with Magic. I look forward to what I can do.”
As part of the PureZero program, Magic stocks PP products in Amway Center stores. PureCycle says that recycling these products creates a true closed loop recycling system.
“The Orlando Magic is thrilled to partner with PureCycle to continue our quest to become a champion off the court,” said Mr. The partnership underscores our commitment to sustainability.By implementing PureCycle’s PureZero program, we can end plastic waste pollution in the region. We simply recycle with PureCycle. We’re not just doing it, we’re helping change the single-use plastic culture.”
The Magic partnership is the latest for PureCycle in the Central Florida area, recently announcing that it will be working with the Women’s Voters League of Velusia, Seminole, and Orange Counties to recycle their plastic campaign signs this month. .
