The Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited are working with partners to find solutions for sustainable recycling and upcycling projects in Fiji and the region.
They also look to collect recyclables from remote areas and marine areas.
Foundation founder Amitesh Deo said the company is working with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, appropriate technology development centers, beverage companies and consultants to research glass crushing and final product use.
Deo also says it upcycles plastic into building blocks and other products.
He added that they are working with IUCN to conduct a feasibility study of a ‘hub and spoke’ approach.
The idea is to develop a system where recyclables are transported from remote or maritime areas to a central location and then sent to an upcycling facility.
Deo said the success of these projects is very important.
He said they are also considering options to involve the collection of recycling pillars, which are formally known as informal waste pickers and involve mostly women in implementing upcycling projects. I am adding.
