A $35 million recycling facility will be built later this year at an undisclosed location in the city.
Important reasons: State leaders want to increase Michigan’s recycling rate from 19% today to 30% by 2025.
- The new facility aims to increase access to recycling and position Detroit as a recycling hub.
News promotion: WM, a Houston-based waste management company, announced plans for a new facility yesterday.
- The new operation is expected to process up to 40 tons of material per hour from surrounding industrial, commercial and residential customers.
- It’s expected to be completed by the end of 2023, but a WM spokesperson told Axios the company is still finalizing location details.
