October 13, 2022 – TheNewswire – lithium cycle (lichie), an industry leader in lithium-ion battery resource recovery, announced that its Alabama recycling facility has entered commercial operation.
Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the new facility utilizes the company’s patented eco-friendly technology to recycle and directly process full electric vehicle battery packs without dismantling. Li-Cyle does this through an underwater fracturing process that does not generate wastewater.
The company said its Alabama Spork facility is strategically positioned to support the recycling needs of Battery Supply’s growing customer base in the Southeastern United States.
Li-Cycle co-founder and CEO Ajay Kochhar said: This facility enhances our ability to support the recycling needs of our diverse and growing customer base in North America to ensure that lithium-ion battery materials are recycled in an environmentally friendly and safe manner. Li-Cycle makes domestic supply of recycled materials essential to support EV production and help automakers meet domestic production content requirements. “
Li-Cycle currently has four spokes in operation in North America with a total input handling capacity of 30,000 tons per year, or the equivalent of approximately 60,000 EV batteries.
By the end of 2023, the company expects to have a total lithium-ion battery material processing capacity of 65,000 tons per year across its spoke network in North America and Europe.
Li-Cycle shares trade on the NYSE under the ticker symbol LICY. For more information, see: www.greenstocknews.com.
