Grenville, Virginia – The Environmental Science Club at Grenville State University (GSU) recently spent time painting flower boxes next to recycling bins in the Grenville Hayes City area.
A trash can located in the parking lot between Tudor’s Biscuit World and McDonalds is open to the community at all times and is maintained by the Lewis-Gilmer Country Solid Waste Authority.
“If you are interested in diverting your waste from landfills, I highly recommend taking advantage of these bins. , mixed metals (aluminum and tin only), mixed papers (office paper, newspaper/magazines, and cereal boxes), and there is a separate bin dedicated to cardboard.GSU Assistant Professor of Natural Resource Management and Environmental Science Club Advisor Dr. Nabil Naceri, who is also an appointed member of the Louis Gilmer County Solid Waste Authority.
There are plans to have another centralized recycling location on the Grenville State University campus for use by the entire community, Naceri said.
Environmental Science Club membership is open to all, including community members. Also, the Environmental Science Club will be planting flowers to mark the end of spring and the beginning of autumn and winter.
