green cove springs, florida – Curbside recycling is reopening in Clay County after the county canceled in the summer of 2020 due to COVID-19 and staffing issues.

The Clay County Board of Commissioners on Thursday announced the long-awaited reopening of recycling on Monday, December 5, in unincorporated areas of Clay County and in the city of Keystone Heights.

According to the county, Waste Management now has enough drivers to meet demand in the area.

Residents will need two bins for sorted paper products and rinsed containers.

    • Paper product bins are for clean, dry paper products such as newspapers, books, junk mail, shredded paper, and flat cardboard cut into 2′ x 3′ pieces.

    • Container bins are for pre-rinsed containers including plastic and glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, cartons and juice boxes.

Residents are asked to put only accepted recyclable items into the trash.

The following items are not accepted:

    • medical sharps

    • Plastic bag

    • Styrene foam

    • chemical container

    • Broken glass, window panes, or mirrors

    • Aluminum foil

    • Hanger

Recycle bins can be requested through the Clay Connected app, available free for Android and Apple devices, or residents can call Environmental Services at 904-284-6374. Keystone Heights residents should call Waste Management at 904-695-0500 to request a trash can.

Waste Management will begin delivering requested recycling bins starting November 14th.

Garbage collection will be on the same day as the resident’s yard garbage collection. Please put out the garbage can on the side of the road by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day.

Waste Management will also continue to serve seven temporary recycling drop-off sites through December 18th. These containers will be removed on December 19th.
