MAWAH, N.J. — The Mahwah Boy Scout Troop 50 Badger Patrol this week helped create fishing line recycling containers to be installed at Lake Henry near Continental Soldiers Park and other fishing locations in town, the unit said in a Facebook post. says.
The Scout Troop, which frequently provides community services, was contacted by Mahwah’s Environment Board and one of the patrols, the Badger, was put on duty, Scoutmaster Anthony Desand told Patch.
According to DeSando, Badgers cut the PVC pipe, glued fittings to the ends, and then labeled the tubes. Badger will then, along with other patrols, set up his five newly assembled containers at a force-wide event on 5 November.
“Scouts go fishing several times a year, so this is a community service project they can relate to,” Desand said.
At the event, some scouts remove fishing line from trees and shrubs around the lake, while others set up recycling containers.
“We look forward to setting up (the container) this fall and helping clean up the fishing lines,” Desand added.
