Louisville, Kentucky — Helping out is easy for Mike Denham.
“It’s nice to clean things up instead of seeing them littered and strewn on the roadside. said Denham. “If not, I’ll take it to the landfill. It gives me a sense of accomplishment.”
Denham is a Louisville veteran owned and operated junk removal specialist. Junk it.
They were called along with Veteran’s Club Inc. when someone of their own needed help.
“We did residential first aid and were able to get the unit. Currently looking at long term housing where his client has a Section 8 voucher in hand from HUD-VASH but the unit is inspected I was worried that I wouldn’t pass the exam.” said Amy Luckett, Social Services Program Coordinator for Louisville Metro Government Resilience and Community Services.
A veteran in need of help has been in his current unit for over a year and can remain there, but in its current state the unit will not pass inspection. The veteran’s mother also died earlier this year, and the veteran has kept many of her belongings in his unit. The veteran did not want to speak in front of a camera or have his name identified in this article.
The grants the Louisville Metro Resilience and Community Services Department will receive for this run out at the end of the month, so the city has no more funds to help this veteran. So Louisville veterans were on the verge of facing homelessness. At that time, Veteran’s Club INC was recommended to me.
“If we can get this now, this veteran will stay home and ultimately further alleviate the homelessness problem we all have,” said Veterans Club founder and CEO. “Meeting where veterans are and confronting these issues,” said Jeremy Harrell of
Harrell made contact with Denham and Sgt. The Junquit Team and that’s when they got to work.
It’s the job that Denham will be returning to.
“Just knowing that I helped someone and hopefully made their life a little easier and that they were able to pass inspection. That’s a big thing. They need a place to live.” .”
The veteran will have his unit inspected next week.
