Reno, NV (KOLO) – Here in Reno, our local Junk King prides itself on providing eco-friendly junk removal services. Recycle as much as possible. Among the warehouse items they donated.

The owner here says he employs eight employees who take just 20 minutes to remove unwanted items from the place.

“I never paid $12 an hour, so I never thought about it myself,” says Junk King owner Brian Cassidy. “I pay more than that.”

Here’s Cassidy’s response when reading question 2 on the ballot.

Two refer to the ‘minimum wage’ question asked of voters. Or the Nevada legislature? ”

“If it’s going to be every session, it’s $2, $2 more. Then I’m going to go up,” says Cassidy. “Then what about the ceiling?”

Minimum wages will continue to rise regardless of question two,” said Christine Saunders, PLAN’s Director of Action and Policy. Sanders explains that Question 2 is the result of her two events in Congress in 2019.

Congress passed Congressional Bill 456, which would gradually increase the minimum wage. By 2024, that wage will be set at $12 an hour. Congressional Joint Resolution 10, along with that Congressional bill. This is Question 2 on the ballot.

“It’s kind of an easy move to bring the Constitution into line with what was passed in Congressional Bill 456,” Sanders said.

Sanders says Cassidy is right and Congress can raise the minimum wage during its biennial session. But in her opinion, it means legislators will be held accountable by voters.

Also, in question 2, the provisions currently associated with minimum wages are removed. If question 2 is passed, an employer will no longer be able to pay him $1 less than the minimum wage if the company offers health insurance.

“There are over 100,000 workers who would benefit from passing Question 2. They would be paid $10.50 instead of $9.50.”

According to Sanders, her research shows that the same employee is often presented with an offer of $10.50 and an hour, but often opts out because the premium is too high. She thinks it’s a way some employers take advantage of their employees.

She said the people working the minimum wage in Nevada represent the workforce or about 100,000 people. If approved by voter question 2, the minimum wage set by Congress will become part of the state constitution in line with state law.
