Tampa, Florida — There’s a Tampa company that doesn’t just pick up junk. They liven up the community. For over a decade, they’ve been hauling salvageable items off the curb for families in need.
Every stop by Accelerated Waste Solutions’ big green truck is an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.
“I realized that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. We wanted to collect stuff and recycle it instead of taking it to the landfill. We found it even more rewarding if we could donate and they could benefit,” said co-owner Sherrod Hunter.
So Hunter and co-owner Fred Tomlin partnered with second-hand clothing stores and non-profits in Tampa Bay to start bringing in whatever they could collect.
“We look for clothing that can be reused, including canned goods and non-perishable items that can be donated to families in need,” says Sherrod. “We see all our work as an opportunity to give back and make this world a better place.”
Their donations became so popular that the organization began creating wish lists of specific items.
“They may come to us and say they need a family dresser for the shelter this week, maybe clothing another week, bedding another week,” Sherrod said. said.
Thanks to a new app, Junk Shot, the company’s call center team often knows what to expect before the truck arrives.
“We call it ‘trash parenthood,’ ‘trash parenthood,'” said Tomlin. “We get photos and videos that allow us to review materials before we go on site so that we can provide a more accurate estimate.”
The company hopes that you can build a solid profitable business and at the same time inspire others so that they can help the community.
“It actually started as our first mantra, ‘Support Tampa Bay every day,’ and it evolved,” Tomlin said.
