car and driver
Hit the go pedal in almost any electric car and you’ll be amazed at how fast it accelerates. This is because EVs are inherently straight and fast, thanks in large part to the instantaneous torque of the motor. With plenty of power, these EVs aren’t just blazing fast out of the box, they’re blazingly fast, up to 60 miles per hour. That is why, alongside supercars, there are truly powerful electric models in the higher-performance stratosphere.
We’ve tested over 55 EVs so far, and the fastest set of them consists of nine nameplates that reach 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. However, do not confuse quick with fast, as the two terms have different meanings.
Quick refers to vehicle acceleration, Fast refers to maximum speed, and are not mutually exclusive. For example, the GMC Hummer EV is fast, but not fast. The electric pickup truck reaches 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, but has a top speed of 106 mph.Conversely, the Lucid Air is fast When The 1111 horsepower model hits 60 mph in 2.6 ticks and has a top speed of 173 mph. Recognize?
Now that we’ve established the ground rules, let’s test a model that hits 60 mph in 3.5 seconds or less. We have tested multiple versions of some of the EVs listed below, but only the fastest variants are included for the purposes of this list.
