Starting January 3rd, Ryland will be picking up trash, recycling, yard debris and bulk trash.
MACON, GA — In 2021, garbage collection was a major headache for many in Macon Bibb County. Over the last few months, we’ve seen trash pile up for weeks and county leaders picking up the trash.
However, starting next week, a new company will collect your garbage. Ryland Environmental will take over all solid waste pickup on January 3, 2022. This includes garbage, recycling, yard debris and bulk waste.
If you live in Macon Bibb County, there are a few things you should know.
“Every community speaks for itself. When you ride in a community and see a lot of trash, you say, ‘Hmm, you don’t have to go there. It’s an eyesore,'” said Celestine Robinson.
Robinson has lived in Macon all her life, and trash picking was a problem in her neighborhood. For over a month, the garbage kept piling up.
“Recently a neighbor moved in and there was a lot of trash and no one came to pick it up. Just sat there and got soaking wet. All the junk that wasn’t there…they I pulled it in. The mattress got wet and it all accumulated bugs,” Robinson said.
If you have an old cart, Ryland would like you to leave your old empty cart on the curb for collection by Advanced Disposal/Waste Management on collection day.
Garbage collection days return to Mondays, except in the southern part of the county.
“Now that Ryland has taken over, we are seeing a dramatic change. That’s what we need.” Robinson.
Each new Ryland cart includes a flyer letting you know when the January collection day begins.
“Fundamentally, people only want someone to pick up their trash. Our goal is to provide the best customer service in the business. We want to be the best in the business. It’s not hard to do if you’re responsive, it’s just a matter of when things go wrong,” said James Lanier, managing partner at Ryland.
Robinson is happy with the progress so far.
“They need to keep up the good work. Keep it up. You started doing good things. Let’s see the consistency,” Robinson said.
Recycling and bulk waste collection takes place every other week.
Recycle cart too! If it’s not already on your county’s list, you’ll need to call the number listed on Ryland’s red litter box or check his website at Macon-Bibb to order a new litter box.
