The City of Greensboro’s new $25 fine for an ordinance on leaving trash cans unattended for too long is not popular with many.
But even though the new law won’t go into effect until July 1, people seem to be taking precautions and trying not to cause trouble for the city’s garbage police.
On the morning of Tuesday, June 28th, the day after the Irving Park area garbage collection day, there were very few trash left on the streets.
Before the city of Greensboro announced it was cracking down on violators, streets like West Cornwallis (pictured above) still lined a fair number of city trash cans. But on the bright morning of June 28th, trash cans were found in Cornwallis and the surrounding streets, but with dramatically fewer curbs than before.
City of Greensboro regulations state that garbage and recycling cans must not be put on the street before 7:00 p.m. the night before scheduled collection and must be removed from the street by 7:00 p.m. It is defined.
For those who have to pick up their garbage late or have to work late at night, that means trouble if they have neighbors who don’t like them and want to cause trouble.
The city has had regulations in the past, but the new 2022-2023 city budget includes a $25 fine for anyone who simply takes trash or recycling cans in and out at will.
