What happened to the bulky item pickup program?
Beginning this year, Overland Park’s oversized package pickup service transitioned from a city-run program to a garbage hauler-provided service.
- Garbage haulers must offer at least one bulky item pick-up service each year, rather than residents leaving large items on the curb for pick-up on a preset date every other year.
- Locals can now work with garbage haulers to schedule collection days and determine which items can be collected.
- Discussions about changing the program arose after the city’s cost of providing services increased by 83% in 2020, according to city officials.
