KENDALLVILLE — Three years after picking up curbside bulk junk and large items, Kendallville residents show no signs of slowing down.

The occupants have clearly cleaned out their homes, basements, garages, and sheds, and they have a lot to sell.

Residents threw 113.7 tonnes of material during a street bulk pick-up event in April this year. This is about the same as the April 2021 total of 113.4 tonnes.

City residents now receive biannual bulk pickup services through Kendallville’s citywide residential garbage contract with Noble County Disposal, which began in 2021.

Prior to this, the city chose to self-pay for a citywide cleanup day in 2019. This was his first in over ten years. Then another cleanup day took place in the fall of 2020 before the new citywide hauling contract went into effect. Year.

As part of that contract awarded by Noble County Disposal through 2025, Kendallville now has two bulk pickup days per year.

At the first event in 2019, residents threw 167 tons of garbage, and in September 2020, 158.04 tons of garbage were dumped. The city out-of-pocketed the costs of these two cleanup events. Even before the Great Recession began in 2008.

2021 – the first year the City has conducted mass collections twice a year at the Noble County disposal – the annual total increases to 190.67 tons, with 113.4 tons disposed of in April and 77.27 tons in September.

Totals have declined for each individual pickup since we first started in 2019, but have recovered this spring with more scrapped tonnage.

Kendallville’s contract with Noble County Disposal stipulates a disposal fee of $51 per tonne in 2022 and a fee of $152 per hour for garbage trucks to patrol the city and curb pick up. .

This April’s cleanup cost the city $13,094.70 for 48 hours of cleaning on city streets and 113.7 tons of waste.

The City spent approximately $20,000 in 2019, $16,040.04 in 2020, and $25,228.17 in 2021 for a total of $25,228.17 on bulk pickups.

The pick-up date is covered by a portion of the resident’s monthly trash fee assessed based on the utility bill.
