KENDALLVILLE — In addition to tons of junk, there’s what Kendallville residents have thrown out this year. This is a historical record for annual bulk tonnage.
After four years of street pick-ups, you’d think the locals would have ditched most of the junk, right? far cry.
After the bulk collection days in April and September, Kendallville residents threw a total of 202.27 tons of junk, surpassing the 2021 total of 190.67 tons.
Residents pitched 158.04 tons of junk in 2020 and 167 tons in 2019, while the city held only one pickup day in the fall each year. Had he hosted two dates as the city does now, both years he could have topped his current record for 2022.
As part of the citywide garbage contract Kendallville adopted when it launched in 2021, a portion of the monthly bills paid by residents will go toward funding twice-yearly curbside pick-ups.
Prior to 2019, when the city paid for Noble County Disposal to do curbside cleanup weekends, Kendallville did curbside pickup of bulk items more than a decade after the Great Recession hit. was not
Residents dumped 113.7 tons of trash during the April 23rd cleanup, and another 88.57 tons on September 24th.
Kendallville’s spring 2022 was similar to 2021, when residents threw out 113.4 tons of trash, but tonnage increased in the fall from 2021’s 77.27 tons.
In total, bulk pickup costs were $24,907.77, actually slightly down from $25,228.17 in 2021, even though we threw more stuff away. The difference in cost is that compared to past years when Kendallville was split north and south and trucks and crews were out on his two consecutive weekends, this year Noble County Disposal can drive the entire city in one day. It’s because I cleaned it.
This year, the City of Kendallville paid garbage trucks and workers $152 an hour and a disposal fee of $51 per ton.
One of the things that was new this year was that Noble County Disposal received support from two local high school sports teams, and the company funded those teams as labor payments.
East Noble High School Basketball helped 11 kids in 2022 and received $1,500. Meanwhile, Central Noble High School Basketball backed his 13 players and received $1,800 for their support.
