Learn how to dispose of tree debris, construction materials, or truckloads of large items.
Booking is easy! Follow these three steps:
1. Check if your item is still available and accepted by our collection system. If your item still works, try donating, gifting, or selling it instead!
- Nextdoor offers a free option when listing your products. Your neighbors love free stuff!
- Habitat Restore carries all types of furniture and building materials. Check out their website to learn what they accept and how to schedule a pickup.
- For donations or pickups, please contact your local Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, or other thrift store.
If the item is not available, please ensure that oversized item pickup is accepted. All items must be from the home in which they are installed.
2. Click to schedule the appointment. (Link will be available on October 29th)
You will receive a PENDING email notifying you that your request has been received and that you have pending booking dates. You will be notified by email if we list unacceptable items. You will receive a confirmation email 2 days prior to your booking indicating the date and items approved.
3. Set the approved item the day before the reservation date.
- Items should be co-located for garbage collection.
- Keep items away from other objects and do not block sidewalks or streets.

I want to throw away big things, but they are too big to fit in the trash. For example: sofas, tables, mattresses, toilets, etc. A large item is not a large pile of small items or debris. Small items tend to get messy even in bags and boxes, leaving trash everywhere. Please include these items in your weekly garbage collection, or donate or recycle if possible.

You can schedule up to 4 large item pickups.

Once the reservation is made, you will receive a confirmation email with the dates of your reservation. After 4:00 p.m. on the day before the reservation and by 6:00 a.m. on the day of the reservation, please dispose of the confirmed items at the same collection point.
- How often can I schedule pickups?

You can make a reservation up to once a week.
- Can I make appointments for other people?

Anyone within the service area can make an online reservation, but an email address is required. If a resident has booked a different address, you will need to communicate with that resident so they can share the information provided in the confirmation email. If a resident has booked a different address and has not been contacted, the staff education process is hampered. Overall, it’s best for residents to book only their own address.

If you live in the Neighborhood Clean Pilot area of Smoketown/Shelby Park, please use the current scheduling system until the new reservation system starts on February 6, 2022 in that area.
Items that can be collected for large items
Furniture and household goods
Sofas, chairs, tables, buffets, beds, dressers, box springs, mattresses, floor lamps, cribs, playhouses, carpet rolls, etc.
metal items
Washing machine, dryer, stove, hot water bottle, bicycle, bed frame, etc.
tire
Up to 4 bottles per household. Must be separate from other items.
Items that cannot be picked up for large items
Small items – loose, bagged, boxed.
Dispose of it in your weekly garbage collection, or recycle or donate if possible.
Construction and demolition waste
Timber, Drywall, Flooring – These items can be disposed of at waste reduction centers (fees apply).
concrete, brick, rock – These items can be disposed of at facilities that specialize in this type of waste. Waste Reduction Centers do not accept concrete, brick, or stone.
Garden waste and wood debris
Use weekly garden waste collection for limbs and tree trimmings that meet garden waste guidelines. Yard trash and tree debris that do not comply with the guidelines can be taken to the Waste Reduction Center (fees apply).
household hazardous waste
Motor oil, batteries, paint, gasoline, antifreeze, light bulbs, chemicals and other household hazardous waste may be brought into the Haz Bin at 7501 Grade Lane.
containing or once containing freon
Refrigerators, air conditioners, and other items that contain or used to contain freon can be disposed of at the Garbage Reduction Center. If you exceed 4 points, you will be charged.
Auto parts
Including boats, motorcycles and mopeds.
Plan disposal!
Renovate or remodel? Do not start the demolition process until you have a plan for disposing of the resulting debris. Construction and demolition debris is prohibited by the Louisville Garbage and Large Items Collection Ordinance. A collector will mark the materials and leave a notice at the residence. S.o What can be done with construction debris?
One option for disposing of construction and demolition debris is to take it to the Waste Reduction Center on Meriweather Avenue. Fees vary depending on vehicle or trailer size.
A second option for large amounts of debris is to hire a haulage company. In many cases, the pickup truck can get the job done in one move of her. For larger volumes, some haulage companies will unload a large trash can at your home and collect it after the filling is complete.
