Tips to keep foliage collection running smoothly throughout Hickory City:

    • Check the leaf collection schedule online at https://www.hickorync.gov/leaf-collection.

    • Rake all leaves to the curb by the first collection day for the quadrant. Trucks will start picking up in different areas of the quadrant to ensure efficient service. If you spread fallen leaves after the first day, the fallen leaves may not be collected at the scheduled time.

    • Do not mow grass or blow leaves or other debris into the street. It causes many problems.

    • Keep leaves away from storm drains and streets to prevent flooding and accidents during rain/snow/ice events.

    • Do not park your vehicle on fallen leaves. A hot exhaust system can set the leaves on fire.

    • Do not mix junk, litter, stones, brushes (sticks) and leaves. It can damage equipment, delay collection, and cause injury. Mixed piles are considered contaminated and may be subject to special pickup and associated charges.

    • Leaves in clear plastic bags or in easy-to-handle open containers such as 32-gallon containers labeled Yard Trash are collected on regular weekly garbage collection days.

    • Remember that bagged leaves and yard waste must be placed in clear plastic bags so the crew can distinguish them from junk.

    • Use extreme caution when operating your vehicle near leaf collectors. The safety of both residents and reef crew depends on it.
