Q: I’m on my morning commute on US 101 from 85 to 87 and back to 101, and I’ve noticed a lot of trash on the medians and shoulders on these routes. Whose job is it to clean up this junk?
It’s more than canned goods and food wrappers. Also old tires, car bumpers, chairs, old Weber his grills and more. big Junk debris lining these highways.
This is a disgrace, and given Sacramento’s surplus, one would think they would allocate some of it to clean up the trash before it actually rains. Much of that debris then flows into storm drains and into the ocean. .
Is there a specific entity that can be pushed to achieve this?

A: The highway is jammed again, but there is light ahead. Caltrans says he’s embarking on a $1.1 billion cleanup effort in three years. Starting Monday in Santa Clara County, Caltrans will conduct a major cleanup of Interstate 280, from Stelling Road in Cupertino to Bird’s Avenue in San Jose. This includes daytime lane closures. If you are driving this route this week, please allow extra time.
Q: Street litter is a disgrace. Especially seen on Route 84 and his 880. What happened to the Community Services garbage collection? I have extra budget, can you help clean up the roadside?
I recognize that this is a first world problem that pales in comparison to others. Maybe not, but this is something you can work on that will directly benefit our community.

A: You are right about this issue. Governor Newsom is listening.
As part of its cleanup efforts, Caltrans has expanded its Clean California Incentive program statewide, offering up to $250 per month to Adopt-A-Highway volunteers who pick up litter along the state’s highways.
Volunteers interested in participating in the program should call 866-ADOPTAHWY (866-236-7824) or visit CleanCA.com for more information.
Q: Graffiti on street signs seems to appear overnight. We took our grandson to school and my grandson noticed graffiti on a sign high up on his 680-101 interchange in San Jose. “Nana, how can I get up there?” he asked. I had to admit I didn’t know. Mr. Roadshaw, please. how, actually? I want to know about 6-year-olds and Nana!

A: There are several ways. On the old overpass, the platform stretches over the highway, and these mockers stand and deface the signs. In other cases, a partner in crime may help another partner reach a sign by hanging onto a highway.
