If there’s one thing the French do better than most other nationalities, it’s their originality, especially when it comes to video games. Before Ubisoft used the same draw method in almost all of their games, they had an original and cool concept. Quantic Dream has provided me with many unique experiences over the years. And last but not least, Focus Entertainment recently released one of the coolest and most original games on the market. Their latest addition is Blacktail, developed by The Parasight, which I enjoy during the Christmas period. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. I’ve been playing on Steam.
You may know the legend of the witch Baba Yaga, a terrible witch in the Slavic world who is said to steal children. Many legends in the Slavic world are often dark, and so is this one.In Blacktail, you play 16-year-old Baba. She was accused of witchcraft and she was expelled from the tribe as a result. Luckily, the world outside of town is so lush and vibrant that Baba can use his bow and arrows to survive.

The main character is named Baba, and I don’t want to spoil it, but I wonder if it has anything to do with Baba Yaga? potentially. The creatures you meet in the world are based on Slavic folklore, some of which I knew, but also experienced many new ones I had never heard before. See the shadow of what you think is there and chase it, only to be stopped by a broken bridge.Next to the bridge are many very large mushrooms that can magically speak to you. These three mushrooms A bully tells Baba that if he kills the dragon, which Baba hates, he will be able to cross the bridge. The three sponges are interesting, and the dialogue with Baba is full of humor and mysterious, making you feel that the development is more than you expected. The whole thing is so charming and the atmosphere is great. Throughout the story you will meet many quirky and interesting creatures. They are either honest or manipulative and want Bubba to work for them and get their agenda done. Contribute to a great story that must be read. I love storytelling that makes me put my tongue in my mouth.
As mentioned earlier, the story is full of choices Bubba has to make. These choices have real implications as they can make Baba an evil creature or a good one. There are always decisions big and small that affect her abilities that she can unlock. this is very cool. This is a bit reminiscent of the light and dark aspects found in the Knights of the Old Republic. There, morality unlocks benefits available only to the good or the bad. You might even come across a mythical queen who wants to conquer the world. She can choose to help her by allowing her ants to troll her forest, or destroy her anthill to set back her plans. There are hundreds of choices throughout the story, and the world’s inhabitants also interact based on Bubba’s right and wrong. That’s cool. However, I was tempted to do a few acts here later that I’m not proud of, but it’s also a testament to the game’s well-written script. Trapped on the forest floor.
The game mechanics themselves are very similar to other open world games. The world of Blacktail has been unleashed and must be explored. It has different areas such as forests, swamps, and ruins, and it’s colorful and nice. Each one is charming and unique. You must find your own sticks and stones to craft arrows to protect yourself. At the beginning, you can only carry a certain number of arrows, but you can unlock them along the way to carry more arrows. Gain more abilities as the game progresses. frequent. Pick yellow flowers and put them in vases and place them everywhere. If you have one, it’s where another goblin respawns when it gets too close. I’m not a fan of this method as you can lose a lot of progress. This is comparable to the way many games like Souls do it. I didn’t like the way death was frustrating. But maybe you just want “git gud”. I don’t think this approach suits a game like Blacktail. Because of that, I repeatedly lost a lot of progress.

In Blacktail you can use everything, so you have to pick up everything you come across on your way. You can buy abilities with everything you pick up. The most important things you can pick up are often found in chests guarded by creatures that don’t really want your best interests. It’s used to upgrade both equipment and abilities later on, so it gives you a Fallout 4 feel where you automatically pick up all the junk. The first thing you can unlock is more health and arrows, but later it’s also new attacks and abilities that make Baba’s life a little easier.
Blacktail also has boss fights, but I think they feel a little awkward. These are generally small puzzles that require you to either find a way to damage the boss or deal with a bunch of extra creatures that the boss can spawn. However, after a few tries, I was able to get over them.
Blacktail is a fascinating acquaintance, especially the story is cool to experience, but there are some criticisms that could be improved for next time if Blacktail gets a sequel. , overall, the game should be applauded for the originality and freshness it brings to the open world formula.
