Austin (KXAN) — Summer heat is affecting garbage collection.
Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) said Wednesday that due to the heat, we would like trash cans to be on the curb by 5:30 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
Changes will continue until the end of summer.
This will allow ARR crews to pick up recycling, composting, trash, large brushes and bulk items an hour early.
“Actions like these allow ARR to continue to provide a safe working environment for our employees and provide award-winning service to our more than 200,000 customers,” said ARR Director Ken Snipes in a press release. said in “We would like to thank our operators for their hard work and our customers for making the necessary adjustments to protect their employees.”
ARR also requires drivers to take four 15-minute hydration and rest breaks at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm if they are still collecting trash. Usually the driver he takes two breaks a day.
The City of Austin does not typically allow city vehicles to idle, but ARR drivers are allowed to cool off in their vehicles during breaks four times a day.
According to ARR, customers can download the Austin Recycles app, available for iOS and Android, to receive reminders about collection dates and times.
