Stress at work is a common phenomenon. According to his 2021 Work and Health Survey of 1,501 U.S. adults conducted by the American Psychological Association, the majority of workers (79%) experience work-related stress each month. .

However, some jobs are less stressful than others. The Department of Labor’s Occupational Information Network (O*NET) ranked 873 occupations by level of stress, noting the importance of accepting criticism and staying calm in stressful situations for each job. And some jobs that are relatively low-stress pay quite well.

Environmental economist was the least stressful job on the list that pays over $100,000 a year, ranking 52nd out of 100. According to O*NET, the average annual income is $105,630.

The position calls for conducting research on environmental issues such as public and private land use, air and water pollution, and endangered species protection. We invite you to publish the results of this research in articles and presentations to assess the benefits of environmental policies and regulations.

Most environmental economists require a relevant master’s or doctoral degree and some work experience to be employed.

“They are not working in a highly competitive environment,” says Sinem Buber, lead economist at ZipRecruiter, as to why their jobs are relatively less stressful. Some of these positions can be held in government or universities and can increase job security. It’s also less competitive than the role of an economist in a company where you have to help your employees achieve a certain return.

Environmental economists also have a great deal of leeway in their role, according to 81% of O*NET respondents.

Plus, “it’s a really rewarding job,” says Buber.

If you are considering a job to become an environmental economist yourself, remember that all work experience is relative and no job is completely stress-free.

“I find it hard to find a stress-free job,” says Monster career expert Vicki Salemi. “It’s important to emphasize that this is less stressful. It doesn’t mean that there is no stress at all.” A stressful environment can greatly amplify stress,” she says.

Try to talk to people who work at the organization you’re applying to during the interview process to understand the internal culture. Having as much information as possible can help you avoid a toxic work environment, regardless of your role.
