Today Michael talks about innovation and the United Nations. This is a free article.
innovation
“I believe that in order to innovate, you have to be willing to be misunderstood.”
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos
My experience with oxo-biodegradable plastics proves him right. This is a technology that can transform plastic packaging to prevent it from accumulating in the environment, but has the misfortune of being seen as competing with plastics made from crops. useless2 Composting facilities aren’t composting, they’re composting, but they’re made by companies that can afford to spend big bucks on PR, lobbying, and funding NGOs.
The result of this activity is an environmental disaster. Because thousands of tons of regular plastics enter the environment every week, lying around or floating for decades where they cannot be recovered for recycling, composting, etc. If I do not.
People have been led to believe that microplastics are derived from oxo-biodegradable plastics, but there is no doubt that most of them are caused by the fragmentation of regular plastics when exposed to sunlight. there is no. They also come from other sources, such as industrial composting processes that do not completely remove plastic film debris, which are then spread over land used for food production.
The Oxomar Report proves oxo-biodegradability even in the marine environment, and the European Chemicals Agency, which studied the scientific evidence, was not convinced that microplastics could be formed by that type of plastic.
united nations
In my last column, I wrote about the UN’s global plastics convention, and was interviewed at “Directors’ Talk.” Watch the video at https://vimeo.com/758624179.
Sustainable plastic design provides a solution for the United Nations Global Plastics Convention.
