Since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has caused over 1.35 trillion UAH in environmental damage to Ukraine.
A related statement was made by the Ukrainian Accounting Office on Facebook, reports the Ukrainian Forum correspondent.
“According to data from the Russian Federation’s Anti-Crime Operations Headquarters, the terrorist state has already caused environmental damage worth 1.35 trillion UAH to Ukraine. It does not reflect the state of the world,” the report said.
According to the Accounting Office, the air is routinely polluted with dangerous substances from forest fires, burning of petroleum products and industrial products. Since the war began in earnest, emissions have surpassed 67 million tons. By comparison, annual production in 2020 and 2021 was just 2.2 million tons.
A total of 3 million hectares of forests in Ukraine have been affected by the Russian armed attack, representing about a third of the country’s forest fund. Some of them can no longer be restored.
“Russia has turned our fertile black soil into one of the most explosively polluted lands in the world. The Accounting Office emphasized.
The war caused by Russia not only endangers the environment in Ukraine, it has already caused many environmental problems in Europe and will bring even greater problems in the long run.
Russian occupiers mined the Kakhovka HPP dam and resorted to nuclear blackmail at the Zaporizhia NPP. The whole world needs to come together to help Ukraine stop Russian terrorists, bring them to justice, estimate losses and restore everything lost, the Treasury Office stressed.
