Overwatch 2 players are wondering why features like the environmental kill icon weren’t implemented in the sequel.
Overwatch’s kill feed shows you what you need to know about your match right in the corner of your HUD. Most importantly, these details are who killed who and how.
When a player kills another player with a quick melee attack, an image summarizing this interaction appears in the form of a punch icon.
Environmental hazards such as pitfalls cause your name to pop up next to falling icons. At least, the original Overwatch did.
Overwatch 2 Players Miss This Environment Kill Feature
Reddit user thoxo pointed out that Blizzard Entertainment introduced environmental kill icons to Overwatch in a patch a few years ago. However, for reasons unknown to Redditors and others, this particular icon never appears in his Killfeed in Overwatch 2.
“I don’t know. That was cool,” the user added at the end of the post. And given that this post got him 2,300 upvotes, many of their fellow Overwatch veterans agree.
Some have speculated that the icon removal may come down to Blizzard’s efforts to achieve a more “minimalistic look” for the HUD.
This point opened up another can of worms in the Overwatch Reddit thread – do players like minimalist design schemes? increase.
