The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association has condemned Google’s decision to bias consumers toward beef through a new sustainability search feature that provides inaccurate climate information about cattle production.
Minnesota cattle producer NCBA President Don Siefelbein said: “Beef producers have a proven record of continuous improvement that has enabled the United States to have the lowest greenhouse gas emissions from beef in the world while contributing to global food security. Additionally, cattle production conserves green spaces, upcycles grass and feed, and provides consumers with a lean protein source packed with essential nutrients. should be reconsidered.”
Livestock play an important role in protecting open spaces and account for only a small portion of greenhouse gas emissions. Eliminating all livestock in the United States and removing beef from the diet would only reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 0.36% for him. The NCBA asks Google to consider the science of beef production before making this new feature broadly available.
