NEW YORK CITY, NY, USA, Oct. 15, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — All New York City homeowners have until August 9, 2025 to have lead paint inspected by a certified lead inspector. must receive Inspectors must inspect all surfaces of all units using an approved method. These surfaces are:
– All walls and ceilings
– Baseboard,
– windows, window frames, window frames,
– closets, cabinets, shelves
– other surfaces
Inspections may only be conducted by third-party EPA-certified inspectors or risk assessors. It should also include a rigorous inspection protocol and detailed reports to determine if lead paint is present.
Unlike before, these new lead paint test rules also apply to small landlords and vacation rental owners. Per Local Law No. 29 of 2020, the definition of a building with a “multifamily dwelling” now includes single or two family rental dwellings, excluding units occupied by the owner’s family .
MKM Environmental is certified by the EPA to conduct lead inspections and use XRF inspections to ensure effective and efficient inspections with minimal impact on occupants.
The primary purpose of these laws is to close child-endangering loopholes and protect pregnant women and the general public from lead poisoning.
This change affects all requirements under Section 1 of the Local Law, including, but not limited to:
– Issuance of HPD violations for lead-based paint hazards
– compliance with requirements applicable to unit turnover;
– Compliance with the requirement to complete XRF testing on all units subject to local law1 by 2025
– Lead-based paint exemption issued by HPD
