Dr. Nunez’s family immigrated to the United States when she was a teenager in search of job opportunities and a better life. Having moved to San Diego, California from a small rural town in southern Mexico, she became interested in learning how our environment shapes us and affects our lifestyle and health.

Yanelli Nunez, Ph.D.; Physician, Scientist and Engineer for Healthy Energy
Yanelli Nunez received his Ph.D. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from San Diego State University and serving as a Public Health Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, West Africa, she received her PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from Columbia University in 2020.
During his graduate studies, Dr. Nunez investigated the effects of long-term exposure to air pollution on the exacerbation of neurodegenerative diseases. She also worked on studies evaluating simultaneous exposure to multiple environmental pollutants to more comprehensively characterize the overall set of environmental stressors and their effects on health. During her graduate studies, Dr. Nunez learned about the salient racial and social inequalities in environmental exposures and resulting health disparities, and focused her postdoctoral studies on environmental equity. is now guessed.
In the summer of 2022, Dr. Nunez will complete a postdoctoral residency at Columbia University to analyze air pollution emission trends to determine whether improvements in air quality across the United States are equitable across racial and economic groups. I investigated.
Dr. Nunez is currently a scientist at PSE Healthy Energy, working closely with community-based organizations, policy makers and stakeholders. She expands her environmental health research in the areas of climate resilience, energy equity and environmental justice.
Dr. Nunez is an avid runner and hiker. She loves the outdoors, she tries new foods and explores new cultures.
