I am pleased that Rishi Sunak may attend COP27 under pressure from Conservative back-ventures (report, Oct. 31).
I initially applauded the Prime Minister for reaffirming the 2019 ban on fracking and wondered if the Conservative leader was looking to the future of the environment. But given his intent to withdraw from COP27, the reaffirmed ban on fracking is just one of his services by another effective Conservative leader. I concluded.
The reality is that no leader can (in good faith) declare that they care about the environment while ignoring one of the world’s largest environmental conferences.
To win the votes of the next generation, Sunak must not only implement aggressive environmental policies, but also demonstrate a genuine passion for the cause. At the moment he lacks both.
