Burlington, Massachusetts, October 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Experiential learning company Kognito Postvention as Prevention: Dealing with Losses in Schools, Research article published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
Kognito’s research team, in collaboration with Ascend Learning’s Innovative Sciences group, identified a critical need for postvention training to support mental and emotional health and well-being among educators, administrators, and school staff. To demonstrate the efficacy, we conducted a one-year research study using several methodologies. Students as a result of COVID-19.
“This study will be used to train educators and school staff in the identification, approach, and referral of at-risk students who may be experiencing distress related to losses from the pandemic. We demonstrate the effectiveness of online virtual role-play simulations, and we believe our research thus continues to support the use of innovative gaming technologies to improve school atmosphere, foster a sense of safety, and ultimately can teach people how to actively participate in supporting the mental and behavioral health of students.” Nikita KhalidPhD Candidate, CUNY Graduate Center, Research Scientist, Kognito.
Level 1 data indicated that 92% of participants would recommend the simulation to a colleague, and 82% indicated that the training was based on relevant real-life scenarios. Khalid continues, “Overall, this data points to a critical need for postvention training and the use of virtual roles in preparing educators and staff to lead postvention efforts in school communities. It provides promising evidence for the effectiveness of play simulation.”
The pandemic has disproportionately affected the most vulnerable people, children, with an estimated 5.2 million people worldwide having lost a parent or caregiver. Such adverse experiences often lead to anxiety, depression, drug use, and suicidal thoughts.
