The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) said it continues to work with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) to strengthen its Environmental Policy Unit (EPU), calling for training and tools to support noise monitoring. Did.
In a statement, the EMA said a meeting with the TTPS was held on October 27, 2022, led by Acting Police Commissioner Macdonald Jacob, with the participation of Deputy Police Commissioner Ala Christopher, Police Chief Sherma Maynard Wilson and Deputy Superintendent Ramsamarou. said.
The EMA team was led by Chairman Nadra Nathai-Gyan and Managing Director Hayden Romano.
At the meeting, Chair Natai Gyan argued that the EPU is an integral part of the EMA’s structure in environmental protection.
Against this background, the two institutions discussed approaches to strengthen EPU operations. This includes analysis of EPU operations, evaluation of much-needed tools, and training of EPU personnel.
There was also discussion on building capacity through training for TTPS officers on noise monitoring and calibration of sound level meters.
Police Commissioner (Ag.) McDonald Jacob reiterated his commitment to the environment and referred to the TTPS multi-agency task force to address environmental concerns.
EMA said it looks forward to future productive meetings with TTPS to combat noise pollution and protect the environment.
