The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department (EPD) Water Resources Program received the Wes Skiles Water Stewardship Award from Rotary in Downtown Gainesville. The award highlighted the leadership of program manager Stacie Greco in developing her EPD’s water conservation program, a statewide leader in innovative water conservation.

Former EPD Director Chris Bird was also recognized during his 27 years leading the department. Under Chris’ leadership and guidance, Alachua County has become recognized statewide and nationally for its strong wetland and natural resource conservation standards and resource conservation achievements.

The award included cash prizes, which the Rotary club used to purchase a display that will be used to continue to communicate the importance of protecting water resources at the County Administration Building.

Commenting on the award, Stacie Greco said: She continues: We are fortunate to have Stephen Hofstetter as our current Director and dedicated Commissioner as we tackle emerging challenges such as climate change. ”
