City’s first Environmental Advisory Committee meeting takes place Wednesday | News

The City of Meadville’s Environmental Advisory Board will hold its first meeting on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at the City Building, 894 Diamond Park.

The timing of the meeting, which occurs immediately prior to the 6:00 pm Wednesday of the first City Council meeting in November, is not the regular monthly meeting time of the Commission. Mayor Marian Menanno said this week that determining the time of regular meetings will be part of the business of the first meeting.

Created by the Meadville City Council in July, the seven-member Commission has recruited more than 15 volunteer staff members to agencies, commissions, commissions, and a roster of commissions to help carry out various city functions. This is the latest addition. Collectively known as “ABC,” this group oversees the water and sewage system, the Market House, the Meadville Area Recreation Complex, and public housing. Other ABCs hear zoning and code-related appeals, encourage urban beautification efforts, and make recommendations on planning decisions.

According to a recent addition to the city’s website, the EAC was “established for the purpose of guiding the City Council on environmental issues within the city of Meadville.”

Using the Climate Action Plan, which was approved by Congress in June, the EAC is expected to identify priorities related to climate change mitigation for the city to pursue. The committee makes recommendations to the City Council on policy and action. The Council must ultimately set climate-related policies developed and recommended by the EAC and give pre-approval to any attempt by the EAC to seek funding through grants, state agencies, or other sources.

The term of office of committee members is three years. However, the duration of the first group of members is adjusted so that two or her three expire each year. Adults who live in the City, own property in the City, or pay taxes to the City are eligible to serve on the Commission. Taxpayer eligibility applies to people who live outside the city but work in the city and pay the city’s local service tax of $52 each year.

The committee is made up of members Guy McCumber, Matt Bethlem, Ian Carbon, Jenny Tompkins, Ashley Hicks, Joe Grabinski and Peggy Mogsh, all of whom were unanimously approved by the city council earlier this month. I was.
