bay street. LOUIS, Mississippi (WLOX) – The Bay of St. Louis is about to begin a survey of canals throughout the city. It is the first attempt for the city.
Engineers take water samples, measure depth, and determine the amount of sediment. The readings will help the city qualify for reimbursement from her FEMA and other agencies if a storm hits the area. It also helps regenerate swamps.
“There are four target areas on the canal that we are surveying and sampling,” Bay St. Louis City Council President Kyle Lewis explained. “At MDEQ there is an ongoing study on Paz Christian wetland restoration. If this fits well with the samples, those materials could be used in those areas to restore the wetlands.”
The research project will start in March.
