“But when you look at it, it’s a long-term game of being able to build something from the ground up, and ultimately being able to do the same thing as managing trucks and logistics.”
Thus HaHa Dumpsters was born.
Hollis officially launched his Cleveland-based trash can company in early spring with a freshly painted trash can. Haha offers 10, 15 and 20 yard trash drop off and pickup rentals for up to 10 days.
After months of running Haha (a reference to his childhood nickname) as the sole full-time employee (for the time being), Hollis’ mindset has changed.
“When I was young, all I wanted was to make money, buy a big house, buy whatever I wanted, and worry about money. was the feeling. You can put money in your pocket. We want all the money back in this business,” Hollis said. “We want to build something and make it as efficient and profitable as possible to help more people.
“I don’t know what it was. It went from me, me, me to this business and my customers. I don’t know if every entrepreneur feels that way when they first start a business, but It was a dramatic change for me.”
Fortunately for Hollis, entrepreneurship is in his blood. One of Hollis’ older brothers (he has four of his brothers) founded his car detailing business, Hollis His Quality Detailing, and eventually handed the company over to John, who was able to start a tree removal business. John ran Hollis Quality Detail for several years before passing it on to his brother.
Hollis said he’s going through the same trials and tribulations of a new small business in his early days that his brother went through.
“It’s helped me a lot. He’s been there and let me know what he’s been through,” Hollis said. There’s a lot to do, and it’s been very helpful.”
