After several years of operating corporate-owned locations, the Scott’s Addition start-up has tied the future to a franchise model to drive growth.
Mobiledumps, which rents 14-cubic-yard garbage trucks on wheels to residential and commercial users, transitioned to a franchise earlier this month, selling its Richmond and South Hampton Road locations to Chesterfield-based Dunmer Moving Systems. . Terms were not disclosed.
CEO and founder Cam Morrison said the Charlotte, North Carolina franchise is set to open in May. The final corporate-owned location in Raleigh, North Carolina is scheduled to be converted to a franchise in early June.
Mobiledumps hopes to launch 20-30 franchises by the end of 2022, primarily in the Mid-Atlantic, Florida, Texas and New England. Discussions are underway for more candidate sites.

“Our leads come from individuals who want to own their own businesses, businesses like Dunmer who want to add additional revenue streams like offloading businesses, and investment groups that do multiple markets,” Morrison said. Told.
Dunmer has first refusal rights to the Roanoke, Charlottesville and Williamsburg markets.
Morrison said franchise fees range from $25,000 to $45,000 depending on the market population.
Franchise rates provide access to marketing support, company call centers and IT systems. Trailers must be purchased separately by the franchisee and conform to the specifications provided by the company. The company also collects royalty fees from its franchisees.
Based in Scott’s Addition, Mobiledumps launched in 2018 and last year moved to a larger nearby office at 3425-B W. Leigh St. Morrison.
“We made the early decision to franchise, just because we could scale more quickly,” he said. “The reason for that is because we can get more locations up faster, which helps with branding, which helps more locations.
How Mobiledumps works is that after a customer arranges to rent a dumpster, the company unloads the trailer, the customer buries it, and the company takes it away.
Rental rates vary by market. On the Richmond area market, one-day rentals are $279, two-day rentals are $299, and weekend rentals are $329, according to the company’s website.
Morrison said the company recommends how franchisees charge rental fees, but franchisees set the fees.
Morrison, 52, ran a portable storage franchise in South Florida before founding Mobiledumps.
Dunmar Vice President Britt LaLiberte said in a prepared statement that Dunmar has seen an opportunity to complement its moving business with the Mobiledumps franchise.
“When people move, they often take the opportunity to dispose of items before they move. ”said LaLiberte. “He is thrilled to add Mobiledumps to the services offered in the Richmond and Tidewater markets.”
