WILMINGTON — A local man has been charged with 30 counts of pandering to a minor.
John D. Potter, 67, of Wilmington was arraigned in Clinton County Joint Petitions Court on October 14. He is currently incarcerated at the Clinton County Jail.
On July 26, Wilmington police received a case for investigation from Internet Crimes Against (ICAC), according to court affidavits. According to the affidavit, ICAC determined that “21 photographs of known child pornography and/or exploitation were downloaded to an electronic device” at the suspect’s address.
Police determined that the materials contained images of boys between the ages of 6 and 16 and that the images were sexually explicit or suggestive. Police noted that the boys did not appear to be locals.
A search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence on July 27. Electronic devices were seized on the premises. These included the suspect’s mobile phone and laptop.
The suspect allegedly revealed during a police interview that he obtained the material from the website Porn Socket. Some videos reportedly contained acts of bestiality. Police found 400 to 500 photos and videos of her in child pornography that contained sexually explicit acts and included boys and girls from the age of 1 to her 16.
“(Potter) stated that users were aware of the content they received only after they clicked on the links they received. He said he received child pornography from various Porn Socket users, and was fully aware that he could receive this type of video each time it was circulated. We are aware of it,” the report said.
Police asked him why he continued to visit the site despite the possibility of receiving child pornography. According to reports, Potter “failed to provide a valid reason behind his decision-making”.
