Need to rent a trash can for a construction site, remodel, roof or window replacement?
Most of us will need to rent a trash can several times in our lifetime and have no clue how to choose the right trash can for the job.
I borrowed the trash can twice. One for throwing out everything he should have had years ago right before he moved, and another for his second trash can at the construction site of his new house.
Knowing the different trash can options and the right questions can make the rental process a little less intimidating and potentially save you money. Why spend $600 when you can get away with $300?
When I rented the trash can, I didn’t ask too many questions. I called, ordered and paid. And boy did I overpay! I ordered two 20 yard trash cans, which ended up being far more than what was needed for cleaning and far less than what was needed for a construction site.
Do a little homework before deciding which litter box to rent. This is a proposal for the next trash can rental.
5 tips for choosing the right trash can:
1. Size issues
The first thing you need to do before renting a trash can is to decide what size you need. He one of the biggest mistakes people make is ordering the wrong size. As I shared before, the 20-yard trash can I rented for cleanup was too big for my purposes. There’s no point in paying for a half-filled trash can.
Most trash can rental companies offer different sizes of trash cans.
* 10 Yard Trash Can Suitable for small remodeling projects and medium cleanouts such as decking under 300 square feet and shingle removal under 1,500 square feet. They hold 10 cubic yards of material, which is the equivalent of about 3 pickup trucks full of debris.
* 20 Yard Trash Can For medium-sized remodeling projects, or large scale cleaning such as carpet removal in large homes, shingle roof removal over 1,500 square feet, or deck removal over 300 square feet. They hold 20 cubic yards of material, the equivalent of about 6 pickup trucks full of debris.
* 30 Yard Trash Can Commonly used for commercial purposes or for large residential extensions or new construction. They hold 30 cubic yards of material, the equivalent of about 9 pickup trucks full of debris.
* 40 Yard Trash Can It’s also typically used for commercial or industrial purposes, but if you’re looking to completely replace your windows or siding, this might be just the right size. They hold 40 cubic yards of material, the equivalent of about a dozen pickup trucks full of debris.
2. What do you throw away?
Another consideration is the type of waste produced. Many garbage collection companies do not allow mixing of materials. For example, gravel and landfill are unlikely to be combined with other materials. Also, weight can be a factor depending on what you’re dumping. Heavy items are expensive to throw away. The best way to determine costs is to consult with your garbage collector regarding the exact nature of the materials you are disposing of.
3. Know the law
It is against the law to dispose of hazardous waste. Hazardous waste includes chemicals, oil filters, herbicides and pesticides, radioactive materials, solvents, paints (except cans of fully dried latex paint, no liquids), other flammable liquids, partially Includes filled aerosol cans, propane tanks, motor oil, transmission oil/lubricant. /hydraulic fluids/, contaminated oils (mixed with solvents, gasoline, etc.), antifreeze, refrigerators, petroleum contaminated soil/lead paint debris, tires, batteries, fluorescent tubes, sleepers, medical waste, asbestos, animal carcasses, Closed kegs or cylinders, and all liquids.
4. Comparison shop
Garbage truck rentals can be expensive and prices can vary widely from supplier to supplier, so do your homework and get at least two quotes from garbage truck rental companies. It is wise to inquire about additional costs such as: Accurately compare overage fees, tip fees, late fees, fuel surcharges and more.
5. Negotiate
The importance of price negotiation cannot be overemphasized. Commercial contractors do it all the time. Also, don’t hesitate to ask about our special discounted pricing. Some trash can rental companies offer military personnel, seniors, veterans, or members of certain organizations his 10% or more discount. You probably never hear about them unless you ask!
