A tow truck is only intended to get the accident vehicle off the road and quickly to where it needs to be towed.
Sacramento, CA — Today’s Why Guy question comes from Denise Halfacre.
Tow truck drivers have many things to do at the scene of an accident, but according to CHP, one thing tow truck drivers are not responsible for is cleaning everything up.
A tow truck is only intended to get the accident vehicle off the road and quickly to where it needs to be towed.
“California vehicle regulations stipulate that tow truck drivers must use one or more brooms to remove debris and liquids from the road and cover the liquid with dirt as much as possible. , median strips, or anywhere outside the lane.” According to CHP spokesperson Ashley Merchant.
The roads are littered with debris from many vehicles as a result of bumpers falling off or being hit while people continue to drive.
What’s left behind is garbage that will be cleaned up at the taxpayer’s expense.
Tow truck operators are legally only obligated to tie up the wreckage and secure key parts that are of interest to insurance companies. That’s all. CHP says they are under no obligation to clean up any further, but if so, that would be nice.
