Matlacha, Florida — Community members in southwest Florida volunteer to participate in group cleanups in Matlacha.

The group will meet on Sunday mornings at Publix, 5100 Pine Island Road, Bucheria.

You can see the damage from the ground and from the air.

A temporary bridge was opened for residents after the small town’s main bridge was destroyed by high winds.

This was the only way for residents to enter and exit the island, and many were unable to leave the area for some time.

Today’s group meeting is the latest cleanup effort by people trying to navigate through the rubble and piles of rubble that are affecting the lives of their small community.
