The Lee County school district announced 13 schools will open on Monday, with one parent saying his children are ready to return.
Jessica Wood’s children attend Gateway Elementary School. She has been distributing supplies to her family affected by Hurricane Ian, her children being a large part of that as well.
Her children are so young, she said, that it’s hard to explain why she’s helping other families. Told.
“They really want to go back to school. They love school. They love their teachers. They miss their friends. It’s been sad and gloomy and brooding. They’ve really, you see, been with us for a few days here and there serving the community,” said Wood. They’re ready, they’re ready to go back, they’re ready to see their friends, they’re ready to try to get back to a little bit of normalcy, and a lot of other kids want everything to go back to normal. I’m sure you have the same mindset that you want to
Gateway Elementary is one of the schools that opens on Monday mornings. A further 16 stores will reopen on Tuesday and 32 stores on Wednesday. For a list of schools the district has announced will reopen, click here.
On Sunday, the district will release a list of schools that will open on Wednesday.
Districts have a nine-step process for opening schools. These steps include reliable power, drinking water, air quality, debris removal, and the ability to serve food.
Once the school is cleared, there will be a teacher reunion day and a family reunion day, after which classes will begin.
Wood said he was lucky to have another family member living with him for a short time, so he had some help at home in the first week after the storm.
“I think it’s best for kids right now to get back to normal. I’ve met a lot of kids under the age of 12 and, like I said, the spirit of a kid who’s lost everything.” They are still so bright and wonderful. These kids especially my daughters are ready to go back and they weren’t devastated like those kids and those kids are ready to go back I’m here.
In the second week, we did gymnastics at Hurricane Camp. She said she’ll probably keep the kids home Monday and Tuesday, but they’re ready to go home.
