SACRAMENTO – Northern California residents are preparing for more rain and wind as communities pause during widespread storm cleanups from successive winter storms.

After dawn, people in Midtown Sacramento awoke to find a blockage in a busy street and cars smashed into the street. All the evidence is that Mother Nature roared overnight.

Near 23rd Street and I Street, onlookers watched a tree removal company tackle debris.

Christopher Tolbert said, “I never thought I would see something like this, if I were to see such a big tree leaning against my house.”

Contractors and equipment supplies are running low after responding to multiple storm damages.

The contractor said they would have to wait longer to remove the tree.

“I am limited in what I can do,” says Matthew Pederson of Artisan Tree Service. “I don’t want to do any more damage to the roof, so I have to wait for the crane.”

A similar story unfolded a few blocks away.

The ground curves up to your feet, exposing the earth near 21st and G streets.

Neighbors say they saw the ground move overnight before this tree fell on the quadplex.

“It was unlike anything you’d seen before,” said James McDaniel. “I knew the tree would fall.”

The building’s owner hopes the city will act quickly.

“I don’t think there’s enough help in Sacramento to cut down these trees,” said John Small Jr.

After the New Year’s storm, officials believe decontamination could take weeks.

The timeline could be further delayed as more winter storms hit the region.
