FORT MYERS BEACH, FL — As Fort Myers Beach begins cleanup efforts after Hurricane Ian, officials warn people to watch out for debris on the ground.

They say debris is being thrown from the balconies of skyscrapers as crew members try to work.

Fort Myers Beach property owner Brad Marquardt returned home for the first time Sunday morning with his friend Chuck to assess Ian’s damage.

After water seeped into the building, tubes ran through the hallway to combat mold, Marquardt told Fox 4 that the storm surge reached two stories high.

His unit was on the 6th floor and was still damaged.

“I see tiling. It’s tongue and groove, so it’s going to take forever to put it back in…a small price to pay, but when you look at it, this It was amazing to be standing,” says Marquardt.

“There are many people who were in much worse shape than I was. 4 vehicles.

“But I am alive. I am material. Everything will be fine.”
