VENICE, Florida (WFLA) — Police in the area hardest hit by Hurricane Ian are warning residents of scammers who promise to clean up quickly and remove debris.
Venice police say some scammers may demand an advance payment and have no intention of continuing the work.
According to the police department, residents will be required to take photos of the vendor’s vehicle, license plate and driver’s license. “No reputable company would dispute this,” police said.
Officers said that if possible, they would be with witnesses when negotiating with vendors.
The city of Venice said contractors will begin collecting debris from Hurricane Ian’s homes as early as October 5.
