The mayor of a small Florida town has been arrested and accused of beating a man with a pitchfork while cleaning up Hurricane Ian at a local park in Indialantic. David Berkman, 59, the mayor of Indialantic, Orlando, said he was participating in a debris cleanup at a park when a victim began recording him on his cell phone. The victim told officers at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office that he started recording after Berkman allegedly made several comments about “kicking his ass.”
Moments later, Berkman grabbed a rake and slapped the victim’s phone and face. The video has not been released, but officials say it matches what the victim said to officers.
The mayor has been arrested and faces a battery charge for misdemeanor crime. Please see here for the detail.
