Every year on the third Saturday of September, volunteers from all over the world participate in the world’s largest beach cleanup, the International Beach Cleanup Day (ICCD).
Local volunteers participated in the annual cleanup event at Wild Coast Sands Mzamba Beach, which was attended by over 30 eco-warriors.
The event has been held internationally every year since 1986, when people head to the beach to clear debris and trash from the shoreline, waterways and ocean. The ICCD initiative continues to be the largest volunteer environmental data collection effort and cleanup event for coastal and undersea areas to date.

September was also Arbor Month, so each participant in a local beach cleanup event received an indigenous tree as a thank you gift from the wild coastal sun.
After the cleanup, local entrepreneurs displayed and sold eco-products such as vegetables, herbs and innovative items made from waste at the eco-market. Ituba Community College was impressed with innovative upcycled art products.
Commenting on this year’s cleanup, Wild Coast Sun General Manager Peter Tiddy said he was proud of the role he played in not only keeping the environment clean, but also highlighting its importance to the community and guests. I said yes.
